Never underestimate the power of a woman

After 2 days of laboring, and baby not looking so great the decision was made to go to the OR and section this kid into the world. We all hoped she could delivery on her own and gave her 3 final tries, as they are rolling her into the OR, out pops baby!!! Vag delivery in the OR!!!! Good job mommy!
PS that was the most normal part of my day which included 4 deliveries, all gingers!!!

Thanks for sharing such an encouraging story!

I ran across your blog through your comment on the Mama Birth "10 Ways ..." article. Is there any chance your hospital is in the Washington, DC area? I'd love to find a hospital like that if I have another child.

Thanks!

Sorry :( we are in southern Indiana. but I encourage you to really look into your options. A great place to start is "baby friendly" hospitals. The hospital I work at is not yet a "baby friendly" but we are working on getting that, so even if they are not on the list @ babyfriendlyusa.org they may be able to lead you to one that is on that track. Also, call the local L&D units and ask to talk to the manager. Ask what their c-section rate is, ask if you can be with your baby 100% of the time (rooming in) and if your baby has to go to a NICU or SCN what are the feeding/visitation/skin-to-skin practices? A hospital worth delivering at will be more than happy to answer these questions. And the most important thing is to have a clearly defined birth plan, there may be medical reasons that it has to be altered slightly, but you have a much better chance of getting the experience you want that way. I would also suggest to pic a doctor that practices with a midwife. Use whichever you like (I had both with mine and it was great) but a doc that will practice with a midwife is more likely to be pro-natural.
In a healthy normal delivery, there is no need for IV's or constant monitoring. They will need to monitor you until they get a good reactive tracing of the baby, then it can be done as little as a few minutes out of each hour or two.
I wish you the absolute best with your next delivery. Feel free to stop by and leave your story. I love birth stories!
